KAPs Are Back

On January 23rd, 2012, the College’s Administrative Council voted to reinstate the Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity’s recognition as a campus organization. The reinstatement concluded a year-long process of reflection, seminars (leadership, organization, fraternity values etc.) and a session with 5 alumni to discuss KAP traditions and heritage. The process also included a comprehensive rewrite of the constitution. The current group of KAPs has weathered a difficult time with a sense of strength and dignity and now exhibit a resolve to bringing the KAPs back to a position of campus leadership. They want a strong alumni connection and we look forward to helping and supporting them in the days ahead. Congratulations!
KAPs Take Nine Pledges

Despite the year of inactivity, nine underclassmen stuck with the actives and pledged this spring. This is a strong testimony to the active’s leadership and character and the respect they continue to enjoy across campus. We welcome these tremendous young men to the brotherhood!
Second Annual Recognition Event Held

27 brothers come together for a great afternoon.
On April 29, the Alumni hosted the second Recognition Event at the college’s Alumni Center. Eleven alumni, sixteen actives and the KAP Advisor, Jim Wendelschafer, joined together to celebrate the KAP reinstatement, the new pledge class and the 4 graduating seniors. From the generous alumni contributions, we were able to provide the luncheon, welcome the new pledges with a traditional KAP green jacket and celebrate the graduating seniors’ contributions by presenting them an engraved crystal KAP mug.

The brothers of 2012 – a great group of guys!
We also reinstated the tradition of presenting all the actives a certificate of membership. We also took the opportunity to thank our advisor for all of his support and guidance. As a rousing conclusion, the brothers previewed their song for the upcoming All College Sing -- it was definitely up to the KAP standards of old!
We plan to make this celebration an annual event and encourage more alumni to attend. It is a great couple hours of alumni/active interaction and storytelling!

KAP Scholarship Planning Underway
Now that the brothers are reinstated, we will be putting a plan together to start up a scholarship for annual presentation to a deserving active. Your contributions will be tax deductible as they are passed through the college scholarship program. Look for more on this in the weeks ahead. |
